The buttocks are an important secondary sexual characteristic and have been associated with the sensuality and attractiveness of women for centuries. In today’s society having voluminous and rounded buttocks is a symbol of beauty and youth. The loss of its shape due to hormonal, genetic, constitutional or postpartum causes means that in the specialty of Plastic Surgery techniques have been developed to recover and give volume to this area. For the aesthetic treatment of the gluteal region, two methods are available; the gluteal lipograft (fat graft) or the gluteal prosthesis. It is important that patients understand that these are the only two methods recommended by plastic surgery societies. There are unscrupulous people, without knowledge of the specialty, who inject other solutions such as biopolymers, industrial silicone or other unregulated products which lead to serious complications in patients who undergo these procedures by unqualified personnel.
